The good news is that sufferers are not alone as more and more acne scar remedies and removers regular appear on the marketplace. Many of these remedies are actually herbal and natural and include ingredients such as lavender, bergamot, dandelion root, echinacea and chamomile to name a few.

Dermatologist and skin care professionals commonly suggest that people who suffer from acne need to implement some acne skin care methods that will greatly enhance their skin's appearance.

One of the acne skin care tips frequently made is to gently wash the skin on a daily basis with a very mild cleanser. It is best to do this once when you wake up and once before going to bed.

This acne skin care tip is for people who desperately try to stop the outbreak of acne by using harsh soaps and scrubbing pads to stop their acne occurring. Stop! You may think this is helping but if you want to learn an effective acne skin care tip, this will actually worsen your acne breakouts.

Get Control of Your Acne

There are many varieties of acne and many different treatment plans. Technically called acne vulgaris, this skin disease affects millions of Americans annually. Nearly 85% of people develop acne at some time between the ages of 12-25 years.

Almost everyone suffers from outbreaks of pimples at some point in life, making acne one of the most common skin disorders. Understanding the facts about acne may be the first step towards finding a successful acne treatment and controlling your acne.

Many teenagers outgrow their acne, but it is common for some women to need treatment into their late thirties.

What Causes Acne?

No one knows for sure exactly what causes acne, or why it usually begins in adolescence. Since the medical knowledge about acne is still relatively small, many misconceptions and rumors about what causes acne exists. No one factor causes acne.

Acne lesions develop in the oil-producing structures of the skin called pilosebaceous follicles. Oil secretions build up beneath the blocked pore, providing a perfect environment for the skin bacteria Propionibacterium acnes to multiply uncontrolled. For unknown reasons skin cells of acne patients stick together in the pore (this may be made worse by grease, pomades, makeup, etc.).

Deeper still acne causes cysts which are the worst form of acne and carry the possibility of permanent scarring. Genetics also play a role in the development of acne and thus there is a tendency for the skin disease to run in families.

There are other skin disorders that may resemble acne, but are unrelated.

Acne and Bacteria

Pimples are often caused by Propionebacterium acnes, a common bacterium on the skin that feeds on sebum. The bacteria cause the surrounding tissues to become inflamed and acne is formed. The acne bacteria feeds off this mixture which leads to inflamed conditions.

Acne-causing bacteria are anaerobic, meaning they cannot survive in an oxygenated environment. Bacteria called Corynebacterium acnes, which cause skin fats to break down into irritating chemicals, can also directly contribute to an outbreak.

Acne in Teenagers

Due to the hormonal changes they experience, teenagers are more likely to develop acne. Most teens who develop acne have the milder form, called non- inflammatory acne. Hormonal disorders can complicate acne in girls.

If are a teenager and you have acne, you have a lot of company. About 80 percent of all teenagers develop acne, but the disease may also start as late as age 25 or 30, particularly in women.

Acne in Adults

Just when you thought your "bad skin" days were over, adult acne strikes. Just when you've successfully navigated the ravages of adolescence on your skin, you wake up and find acne.

There are various causes of adult acne. The new trend in medical circles is to discuss acne as a hormonal imbalance. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or menstrual periods can cause or contribute to acne. Also, hormonal changes related to starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne. Excess emotional strain on the body can contribute to hormonal changes that have been known to cause acne as well.

Adult acne is different from teenage acne and therefore your treatment approach should be different.

Severe Acne

Boys have more severe acne and develop it more often than girls. Severe acne can cause scars which will never disappear. All but the most severe grades of acne are controllable although not curable. The most severe type of acne consists of cysts (closed sacs) and nodules (hard swellings).

Vigorous treatment of more severe types of acne can help prevent facial scarring.

Treatment of Acne

There is a myriad of products sold for the treatment of acne, many of them without any scientifically proven effects.

The primary products used to treat acne are a pharmaceutical grade glycolic acid solution and a topical antibiotic. By applying a chemical solution to the skin, known as a chemical peel, mild scarring and certain types of acne may be treated.

Non-prescription medications are available over the counter to treat mild forms of acne. Topical antibiotics are commonly used in the treatment of acne and are often prescribed along with a retinoid or benzoyl peroxide. Topical retinoids are used in the treatment of both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne.

The cost and duration of acne treatment with topical applications and oral antibiotics make standard therapy far from ideal. This is why researchers have been studying the effects of specific peak wavelengths of light in the treatment of acne, with very successful results.

Acne Medications

Benzoyl peroxide inhibits the bacteria that cause acne. As with other acne medications, overexposure to extreme wind or cold or use of irritating skin care products may aggravate the skin.

Most acne medications only mask the symptoms of acne and do nothing to stop the real cause of acne. There are even herbal based acne medications, such as tea tree oil.

Today with proper treatment, acne can usually be dealt with successfully and controlled before it becomes totally unsightly. If a vigorous approach of study and application is made, the effects of acne can be greatly reduced and in some cases overcome entirely.

Adult Acne Medication Review - A Review Of The Best Adult Acne Scar Medications

This article will give an honest review of the best adult acne scar medications. Acne affects millions of people around the world and is an incredibly common skin condition that can be triggered by numerous factors which include the use of certain acne scar medications, birth control pills as well as androgen secretion.

More than 90 percent of the population are affected by acne at some point in their lives, particularly their teenage and early years. However, many of these acne sufferers do respond to certain types of adult acne scar medications without too many side effects of complications.

Adult acne scar medications are a popular choice for acne sufferers, regardless of the fact that acne scar medications may need to be used for many months or even years to achieve maximum results.

There is a large range of adult acne scar medications on the market and they are readily available. Some of these adult acne scar medications include herbal acne scar medications and remedies, homeopathic acne scar medications and remedies and the more traditional medications that include chemicals.

Go to http://www.Be-Acne-Free-In-3-Days.com to get FREE instant access to "The Five Basic Secrets For Clearing Your Skin".

As far as herbal adult acne medications and remedies, it is actually quite remarkable that there are potent herbal medications which can effectively help fight acne. Some powerful herbal adult acne medications frequently include the ingredients burdock, chamomile, juniper, bergamot and dandelion root. These herbal adult acne scar medications are a powerful treatment for acne as a result of their ability to greatly enhance the appearance of the skin. Additionally, poker root and echinacea are also considered to be very effective herbal adult acne medications and remedies as a result of their anti-inflammatory properties.

As well as these herbal adult acne scar medications and remedies there are also homeopathic forms of medications that specifically target severe forms of acne. Kali brom is a homeopathic adult acne medication that is frequently used to treat acne sufferers who have blind boils and pustules all over the face, back and neck.

Dermatologists also recommend taking selenium internally as it is also an effective homeopathic remedy for both oily skin, blackheads and whiteheasd. Hepar sulph is also used to treat acne sufferers that usually have painful pustules filled with pus.

Apart from these homeopathic and natural adult acne scar medications there are also more traditional medications containing strong chemicals to help combat acne. These include over the counter medications and adult acne scar medications that require a script. However, some of these are said to have extremely unpleasant side effects. One traditional form of adult acne scar medication is benzoyl peroxide.

This adult acne scar treatment removes dead skin cells and resurfaces the skin. It is also said to prevent new acne blemishes occurring. Unfortunately though, this form of adult acne scar medication can cause excessive skin irritations, dryness and redness which, in turn, can actually make the acne condition worse. Bearing that fact in mind, many dermatologist now recommend that you don't take these traditional forms of adult acne scar medications unless absolutely essential.

Acne Rosacea Cause - Learn The Truth About The Cause Of Acne Rosacea

Acne rosacea is one of the most common dermatological conditions that affects millions of people worldwide. What causes acne rosacea? The truth may surprise you. This article will reveal the truth about the cause of acne rosacea.

Acne does not discriminate. Acne occurs in people worldwide, no matter their race, age or gender. That being said, there are still many questions being asked about the cause for acne rosacea. Extensive research has revealed numerous causes of acne rosacea.Hormones are a common cause of acne rosacea. Research has established that one of the causes of acne rosacea is the activation of the hormones androgens.

During teenage years androgens are activated. This results in the production of oil in the skin. When this occurs a person's skin starts to become clogged with oil and dirt and unfortunately pimples and blackheads break out as a result.Other than this cause for acne rosacea another common cause is the menstrual cycle in women.

Another factor is when a woman actually starts to take a birth control pill and also when she stops taking one. The good news is that nowadays there are actually some birth control pills that are highly recommended for treating acne.

There are three acne scar classifications. These classifications include rolling, boxcar and ice pick. As the name suggest, ice pick acne scars are sharp and very thin. The skin actually takes on the unattractive appearance of looking like it has been sliced with a knife. Ice pick acne scars are very deep scars and extent into the deeper layers of the skin.

The next classification of acne scars is boxcar acne scars. These differ from ice pick scars as they are round pits. This type of acne scar has been shown to get good results from laser resurfacing and dermabrasion procedures.

The final classification of acne scars are rolling acne scars. These type of acne scars are usually as a result of folds in the skin and can usually be treated by breaking up the bands that create the skin fold in the first place. These acne scars are frequently treated by an incision in the skin

There are a number of interesting causes of acne rosacea, one of these being stress. The fact of the matter is that any stress on a person can result potentially in inflammation of the skin. Stress not only may trigger acne rosacea but it can be a very important factor for any skin conditions developing in the first place.

Additionally, some acne studies have come to the conclusion that another reason why acne rosacea comes to the surface is as a result of a food allergy which triggers an acne outbreak. Another cause of acne rosacea is genetic and hereditary factors. Many dermatologist and researches have determined that if your family members have had acne during their life then it is highly likely that all members of the family are prone to acne outbreaks.

If acne outbreaks are hereditary there is little you can do to prevent an outbreak, however, there is quite a lot that can be done to control acne.Additionally, there are a number of environmental causes of acne rosacea including high humidity. Research has established that high humid conditions can cause the skin to swell and lead to acne outbreaks.

Furthermore, the beauty industry may be to blame for the cause of some acne rosacea occurring in individuals. Certain beauty products like foundations, cleansers and moisturizers contain ingredients that could trigger acne in some people. If in doubt you beauty products for sensitive skin.

There are a number of forms of major acne treatments that have been tested and proven to actually work in getting rid of acne. One of the most recommended acne treatments is using antibiotics to directly kill the bacteria breeding in the skin. One of these antibiotics is tetracyclines. Another form of antibiotic is benzoyl peroxide which is mainly applied directly to acne. Of course these acne treatments will not probably work straight away and acne sufferers will usually need to continue these antibiotics for an extended period of time.

An amusing search online for potential causes of acne rosacea include masturbation. I can wholeheartedly state that no research study I have located has been able to find any link with acne rosacea and masturbation. A quick tip for not making your acne worse is to never rub, squeeze or pick any pimples as inevitably that could cause a severe outbreak of acne.

Acne - Causes, Symptoms And Treatments

Acne is a common skin problem for most teens and many adults. Acne occurs when the skin's follicles become blocked with sebum and dead skin cells. The overproduction of sebum in the skin provides an environment ready for the bacterial overgrowth of Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacteria. This overgrowth of bacteria causes inflammation, leading to inflamed lesions. Acne lesions range in severity from blackheads (open comedo) and whiteheads (closed comedo) to pustules, papules and cysts. Acne generally appears on the face, chest and shoulders, but may also occur on the back, arms, legs, and buttocks.

Why some people get acne and some don't is not fully known. Factors that are known to be linked to the occurrence of acne are: hormonal activity (puberty, pregnancy), family history, hyperactive sebaceous glands, stress, low skin exfoliation leading to the accumulation of dead skin cells, anything that activates skin inflammation like scratching, bacteria on the skin and the body becoming allergic to this bacteria and use of anabolic steroids.

There are many myths about what causes acne. A common myth is that acne is a result of dirty skin. However, pimples and blackheads are not caused by dirt. Acne is caused by a combination of over-production of skin oil, excess dead skin cells and bacteria. A blackhead is dark in color because it is open to the air and oxidation causes the color change. Respectively, a whitehead is closed to the air and therefore has not noticeable color.

The myth of whether certain foods cause acne is still being debated. Science has not come up with any clear cut answers; however many people will find a connection between the foods they eat and breakouts. Trying to figure out what foods cause acne to become worse is tough, because the outcome of eating a certain food and resulting acne will vary greatly among people. What food causes acne to become worse in one person will not affect another. So what this comes down to is avoiding some of the generally bad foods for your body and putting in more healthy food. So avoid sugary and fatty foods, foods rich in iodine and dairy foods. Add more fruits, vegetables, green tea and meats that contain good essential fats to your diet.

So what can you use to treat your acne? While there is no real cure for acne, managing all the triggering factors is key to keeping acne under control. Those triggers include dead skin cells not exfoliating, excess sebum, P acnes bacteria, and inflammation. Also, the treatments used depend on the severity of the acne.

The first important trigger to control is the bacteria on your skin. Control the harmful bacteria and infections are less likely to start that result in pimples. To control bacteria, use a topical bactericidal agent like Benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is very effective against P acnes bacteria for many people. Also most tests show that p. acnes do not become resistant to benzoyl peroxide, so if it works for you, it should continue working. Other topical anti-bacterials that can be tried include: tea tree oil for a natural solution, colloidal silver, triclosan, and chlorhexisine gluconate.

Topical antibiotics can be used to control skin bacteria in a more targeted way. Topical antibiotics also usually cause less damage and inflammation to the skin sometimes making them a better choice for people with more sensitive skin. Topical antibiotics are usually as effectual as antibiotics taken orally with fewer side effects. Topical antibiotics include: erythromycin, tetracycline and clindamycin.

Oral antibiotics are effective and good to use when acne is affecting a large part of the body. They can help to get the bacteria under control and then allow topical treatments to take over. Oral antibiotics are easy to use but can have side effects such as colitis, diarrhea, dysbacteriosis. Moreover, long term oral antibiotic treatment is not practical as a bacterial resistance may develop. Oral antibiotics include: erythromycin and tetracycline.

Next, you need to control the production of sebum. Products that control sebum production include topical retinoids such as tretinoin (Retin-A), tazarotene (Tazorac), and adapalen (Differin), and oral retinoinds such as Isotretinoin (Accutane). Both types of Retinoids improve acne by decreasing oil production and altering the lifecycle of epithelial skin cells. Topical retinoids can increase breakouts during the first weeks of treatment and also cause dryness, irritation and sensitivity to sunlight. Oral retinoids are usually used as a last resort because of their side effects.

To keep the follicles and pores from becoming blocked with the oil, dead skin cells and bacteria; exfoliation can help. Salicylic acid is commonly used in acne products and it works as a skin exfoliator. Other AHA's and BHA can be used for exfoliating acne prone skin. Remember, you are trying to avoid skin irritation, so do not use microdermabrasion scrubs or anything to harsh on your skin. Besides removing dead skin cells, exfoliation can improve the penetration of other topical treatments.

Other options for treating acne can include combination birth control pills, phototherapy using red light or blue light and photodynamic therapy, and laser treatments which have all shown efficacy in the treatment of acne.

The grade and the severity of the acne help to determine what combination of treatments should be used. The objective with acne treatments is to avert skin scarring and psychological distress, and to shorten the time a person is living with acne. Mild acne can first be treated by gently washing the area twice daily with warm water and soap and over the counter products. If you have moderate acne, consult a dermatologist before the acne gets out of hand.

Although acne can be very depressing for those afflicted with it, doctors say that most acne is entirely treatable. Therefore, it is very important to try to resolve acne as soon as you can. With most acne treatments, the acne can become a little worse before improvement occurs, but it is important to stick with the treatment.

Your results can be greatly improved by following these tips:

Use oil-free, non-comedogenic skin care products and cosmetics

Avoid cream based cleansers when you have oily skin

Do not over wash or scrub your face excessively as you do not want to irritate your skin. Excessive washing will not cure acne.

Do not pop, poke, pick, scratch your pimples, whiteheads or black heads. Touching your face will only spread bacteria.

Use a mild cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

Switching acne products often will not help. Stick with a product routine for at least one month to see if it works.

If you acne is progressively getting worse, don't wait, see a doctor.

Eat a healthy diet. Tomatoes, garlic, vitamin C and A are all very good for the skin.
Some natural home remedies:

Apply raw papaya juice to affected skin

Apply cucumber juice to the affected skin.

Good basic skin care is the start to ridding yourself of acne. Then finding the right combination of products, whether over-the-counter or prescription, and sticking with a good routine are crucial to success. The key thing you need to understand before using any acne product though, is that the same products do not work the same for every person. Acne is very manageable and should not be suffered by anyone. Taking care of your skin can make all the difference in the fight to treat pimples and zits.

Adult Acne - Getting Rid of it!

If you were part of the majority of people that were unlucky to be plagued with teen acne, just think of all the snickers, jests and humiliation you had to go through, then it easier for you to understand why most adult acne sufferers go through a lot of hassles to remove adult acne from their lives. We both know that adult acne is not a terminal disease (you can't die from having it, I guess you knew that uhhh?). The major thing acne gives us are ugly scars and sometimes they could be really ugly, like mine was at a certain time.

Most of we adults afflicted with acne are usually on the look out for the magical cure that would gives us the fresh and smooth face or skin we had when we were eleven years old. Before we go on a wild goose chase looking for the magical acne medication that would rid us of adult acne lets understand why and how these little annoying monsters grow on our faces.

Why do so many adults still have acne?

It seems from all the amount spent on all those expensive research they still tell us the same thing that we were have all read in encyclopedias, the major cause of adult acne always has something to do with our hormones running wild and also genetics (my dad had a very bad case of acne when he was younger, more severe than mine was). The genetics part simply means that your biological family history has a large chunk of the blame of why you are suffering from adult acne. But aside those there are some other factors that are responsible for worsening your acne condition, some of them include:

Side effects from some drugs - (such as corticosteroids, androgenic steroids, and lithium)
Picking at or squeezing at the pimples
Harsh scrubbing of the skin
Oil based cosmetic products - (I guess you know this one already)
Stress, illness or exhaustion
Heat and moisture
Diet has a some amount of influence on acne - (and please eating chocolate does not cause acne, where the heck did you hear that from)
Pregnancy
Menstruation
Menopause

How does Adult Acne form on the Skin?

The formation of adult acne as we all know has something to do with sebum, follicle and all those big words that I read in some 21 inches thick encyclopedia. In simple words it is formed when oil (also know as sebum) that is produced underneath the skin surface is blocked from reaching the skin surface where it always flows to, through a hair-containing canal called a "follicle".

The follicle wall sheds cells often and the canal is used to remove dead cells, which sort of become sticky and block the opening as they attempt to leave the follicle. The blockage results in increased bacteria growth in the follicle, which turns the trapped sebum into a very irritating substance and results in an inflammation that is widely known as acne.

Pheww!!! All that explanation reminds me of high school biology (so painfully boring to me).

In one sentence on how acne forms it is simply put as "Dead skin cells clog the pores, and bacteria cause inflammation which results in acne on the skin".

Although so many adults like you have tried many acne medications and cosmetics to combat acne, we tend to wonder why they seem not to get rid of the problem once and for all but still they re-occur. It seems that acne forms when one or more of these conditions occurs:

A blockage in the follicle
There is an over production of sebum (oil)
Increased bacteria growth within the hair follicle.

Researchers have found out that the hormone responsible for acne, which is called "testosterone". Yes you have heard of it before it is the male hormone (it is found in both males and females but it is produced in high levels in males). Testosterone is responsible for increasing production of sebum (oil), which results in more pimples. Since testosterone is an androgen and is more in males than females, this explains why men tend to have more severe cases of acne than women (at least that explains why I used to have more pimples on my face than my elder sister although she started having pimples on her face before I started having mine).

Adult acne occurs as visible bumps on the surface of the skin usually on the face, although body acne is also common. Adult Acne is seen as pus-filled blisters; small reddish bumps, ugly looking thick red skin on the nose, cheeks and forehead, and small reddish blood vessels all seen on the skin surface. Acne outbreaks usually occur on the face, neck, chest, and shoulders and back. A highbrow term for adult acne is "acne rosacea".

For so many folks stress seems to be one of the major factors in aggravating their acne condition. When I was in college towards the end of the semester when the amount of work we had to do increases, I tend to have more break outs of pimples maybe as a result of the stress or because I had lesser time for acne skin care. It seems aside the fact that you have to contend with hormones and genetics being the major cause of you acne condition you also have things like stress to worsen it.

Achieving Acne Control with the best Acne Medication

The first step in treating your adult acne condition has to do with proper acne skin care.

First of all AVOID the temptation of SQUEEZING your PIMPLES. Most of the time this results in the scars you see on your face. The bigger a pimple is the higher the chances it will leave a scar if you "pop" it.

Remember to wash your skin gently only twice a day; this is very helpful in removing surface dirt and excessive oil, which could worsen your acne condition by clogging the pores. Also please do not use abrasive soaps. They could damage your skin pores and leave your skin too dry.

If you currently use oil-based cosmetics it's time you switch to water-based, non-comedogenic cosmetics as oil-based creams or lotions irritate oily skin and cause further breakouts and blemishes.

You should also make it a habit to always remove your makeup before going to bed.

Consider applying an oil-free moisturizer to your skin after washing. This helps your skin replenish its own moisture and keeps the oil glands from over producing.

Always remember to shampoo regularly. This prevents oily hair from rubbing off on your skin.

Like we learnt in biology class, a balanced diet is necessary for optimum health. A balanced diet and drinking 10-12 glasses of water a day can help keep your skin healthy. There are some physicians that believe that an increase in iodine consumption aggravates acne and recommend a reduction or elimination of fish and iodized salt.

Adult Acne - How To Deal With It

We are all rather familiar with acne, we either had it, know someone who had it or are currently suffering with it. Acne affects nearly 40 million people in the United States alone. It can start anytime between the ages of 12 and 25 and when it hits, well it hits with a vengeance. A growing number of adult women in their twenties and thirties are getting adult acne, even if they never suffered with acne before. The problem with acne is that there is no known cure.

Yes we are bombarded all over the place to buy this "miracle cure" and try this "amazing product" and so often a person who is afflicted with this skin problem will hope and pray that this will be the answer that they are looking for. Just this one time this is going to be the one thing that actually does work. Then because it proves not to be the "miracle cure" they were promised they end up frustrated and disappointed.

So how does one deal with acne? More particularly how does one deal with adult acne? Well, to just give up and resign oneself to the supposed inevitable is not the answer either. You see adult acne is much like being over weight in that you don't feel good about yourself; your self esteem takes a major knock and you are convinced that when people look at you they do not see YOU but are rather focused on just the area that is riddled with acne. You hate going out in public, you do not want people to look at you because you hate looking at yourself. I know this because I have been there.

Adult acne is embarrassing. It is one thing if you were a teenager because society seems to be more accepting; it is what almost the "norm" is for teenagers. People sympathize and "tut tut" it away as just a natural process of life. I'm not taking away for one moment what teenagers go through (they have "strange" hormones to deal with on top of it all) but there seems to be a stigma attached to adult acne. People just look at you differently.

There seems to be this misconception that if you suffer from adult acne you don't wash your face and you must be dirty. Just like in the case of someone who is overweight people don't sit back and think that it may most likely be due to hormonal changes and/ or sometimes it may just be hereditary. It seems to be in people's nature to assume the worse.

Acne doesn't just lead to physical scars (which are really depressing and more damaging to the psyche) but more concerning it leads to emotional scarring. Well your choices in dealing with adult acne can be put into two categories. You can "roll over and just accept" that this is your lot in life or you can become active, take charge and find ways to help the situation. Acne may not be curable but it can be controlled and eventually you may even grow out of it.

Let's take a quick look at what acne is and once we understand how it comes about we can look at how to deal with it. Acne is generally characterized by black heads, white heads, red bumps (also known as blind pimples) and in some cases scarring. Acne is the result of overactive oil glands at the base of the hair follicles that become blocked or inflamed. It may appear anywhere on the body but it tends to be primarily on the face.

There are different forms of acne; mild inflammatory acne, moderate to severe inflammatory acne and severe acne. The problem with acne treatments is that what works for one person may not work for the next. Due to how severe your acne may be you will need to find out which is the best course of action for you. This is best done seeking the advice of your health practitioner or a dermatologist. However you can do a few things to help yourself.

As tempting as it may be DO NOT SQUEEZE OR PICK AT YOUR FACE. It may be tempting and you may just want to get rid all the spots and you think that by squeezing them all out you will be rid of it once and for all. Well if only it was that simple. It is not. The pus (and thus the germs) spreads across your face causing you more acne, or you just end up pushing the pus deeper into your skin causing more of an infection. In some cases you are left with scars. Scaring brings on a whole different level of anxiety and depression.

Do not spend too much time in the sun. There seems to be this myth that the sun will "cure" your acne. The hope seems to be that it will dry up the oily glands. But how will it when the follicles are blocked? You see the sun damages your follicular walls causing further blockage and in turn more acne. The sunlight also produces free radicals in the skin which diminishes the skins ability to heal.

There has been no scientific evidence that has proven that acne and diet are related. I have read various reports saying that acne and diet are related and some say that there is no relation whatsoever. So not affirmed either way but cut down on some foods and see if it makes a difference at all. Maybe you have an allergy that aggravates the situation.

Start with the highly refined sugars and things like seafood, mushrooms and salt. Deep fried food is generally not good for your over all health and some say that it is really bad for your skin. Drink more water, water flushes your body of toxins and so in turn is a great internal way of aiming for that healthier looking skin.

Stay away from coffee. It does not matter if it has caffeine in it or not. Coffee stimulates the production of cortisol. Cortisol is a hormonal steroid that the body produces when it is under stress. (Stress does not cause acne but it certainly aggravates it) Cortisol helps our bodies maintain homeostasis during time of stress yet it causes problems when it stays is our body for a long period of time because what cortisol does is it destroys tissue, which then releases small protein molecules from the destroyed cells. These remainders of cell-protein partly end up in the skin which ends up contributing to acne. Watch out for foods packed with hormones. It does not help hormonal acne.

Interesting fact, non Westernized people did not suffer from acne until their diet changed to what we eat and then oops they joined our ranks in the acne department. The problem is that so much of our diet tends to rob us of vitamins and minerals that are essential for good healthy skin. Vitamin A has been known to be a great preventative of acne. Give it a try, eat less "junk" and more fresh fruit and vegetables high in antioxidants, there is no harm in it and maybe it will help.

Remember acne is not caused by dirt and so DO Not scrub your face. It generally makes the acne worse. You aggravate the glands that produce the oil and they then produce more oil and then spread the bacterium that causes your acne around the face making it worse. Don't use a face cloth because germs tend to stick to them and then you are just smearing them all over your face. Your hands are the best thing to use and they are a lot gentler on your skin too.

Smoking does not cause acne but it does make the skin look unhealthy and so much older, this is because the nicotine reduces the blood circulation to your skin. Some case studies have shown that smoking can irritate the acne, making it worse.

Avoid things that rub against your skin, like collars, don't wear too much make up and when you do choose products that are oil free or are made specifically bearing acne in mind. These products would be "non-comedogenic" or "non-acnegenic." Wash your hair as often as you need to and keep it off your face.

Bear in mind the following when receiving advice about your acne:

Most over-the-counter acne treatments are topical and the most popular ones contain Benzoyl Peroxide. The problem is that once you stop the treatment the acne just flares up again and some people say that as the skin becomes used to it so the effectiveness of it lessens. Benzoyl Peroxide is also known to cause excessive dryness, and for some people itchiness which then further irritates the skin. It is also a bleach so be careful when using it that it does not ruin your clothes.

Antibiotics tend to aim at inhibiting bacteria. The problem is bacteria are not the cause of acne. The irony is that bacteria are essential in keeping the skin flexible and inhibiting it just speeds up the aging process. Then of course it needs to be remembered that antibiotics are also well known for reducing a person's immune system.

I am not going to give you a whole list of unpronounceable names of various chemicals found in anti-acne treatments but I am going to give you a run down of what some of the side effects are. After all that is what matters most.

o Liver disease (sometimes resulting in a needed transplant)

o Jaundice and life threatening psuedomembranous colitis.

o Autoimmune disease, acute inflammation of the lung and a blue black disclouring of your skin, mucous membranes, nails, adult teeth and Internal organs.

o Benign intracranial hypertension. Early warning signs are headaches, nausea, vomiting and visual disturbances. Decreased night vision, inflammatory bowel disease, an increase in the size of your bones, raised cholesterol levels.

o Heart risks

o Further skin problems. As if acne is not enough you suffer too from dry skin, skin fragility, itching, nosebleeds, inflammation and cracking of lips. Eczema like rash, thinning of hair, peelings of palms and soles of feet, skin infections, gastrointestinal problems, urogenital problems and tiredness.

Then to top the list off you also have things like seizures, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, depression (as if the acne hadn't caused enough now the "cure" adds to it too) gum inflammation, arthritis and so we can go on but I think you have got the point.

I am not trying to scare you off finding what can help your acne, just informing you of what some of these products may do to you. Don't loose hope, acne can be controlled and in many cases people do find what aggravates or causes it through trial and error. Don't give up and you will eventually find the solution that works best for you.

Acne Treatments Online - Curing Your Acne Easily With The Information Available Online

Never before has it been so easy to get rid of your acne today.

Today you can find an abundance of information online such as Acne Blogs, Message Boards, and all those Acne Websites and Acne Products out there. But the only problem is... How do you sort out what will really work for YOU and what won't?

Most acne sufferers start out by using acne creams, lotions, and ointments. If that doesn't work, you might end up visiting a dermatologist for prescription meds such as accutane, antibiotics, or more creams. Other acne sufferers turn to many websites touting various supplements available... B5, Omega-3 fish oil, anti-oxidants, and other pills for acne. And then there's numerous acne ebooks as well.

Back when I had acne many years ago, I tried one over-the-counter product after another, followed by several acne home remedies. None worked for long.

Eventually I stumbled upon a series of books which centered around health, nutrition and healing. It was only then that I began to see a profound difference in my skin. And it lasted too. Through the years I found out what worked and what didn't, and later went on to share my findings with others with equally exciting results.

Here's 2 main points I often share that have helped acne sufferers get on the right track:

==> The FIRST thing you MUST do is DISRUPT THE STEP-BY-STEP, DAY-TO-DAY, CYCLE OF ACNE.

If you're not doing that, then most likely you're not going to make much of an impact on your skin... no matter what you're currently doing. You have to intentionally INTERFERE with the ongoing, insidious cycle of acne that's happening right now, right inside your skin as we speak!

A famous boxer was once asked what his secret was in winning nearly every fight of his career. Here's what he said: "I figure out my opponent's game plan as quickly as possible and then I do everything I can to DISRUPT that game plan of his. And once I've done that, then I use what skills I've learned over the years to finish him off." And then he added, "I never just came out swinging."And that's exactly what you'll need to do to conquer your acne as well. You're going to have to DISRUPT acne's 'game plan,' -- the acne cycle -- in order to have a chance at having clear, acne free skin.

See, if you attack your acne that way, it has no other choice BUT To Die Out! It Can't Do Anything Else! It Can't Function Any More Inside Your Skin.

The problem is, most people just come out and start 'swinging away' at acne ... hoping for the best!

Remember This: Until you know ALL the angles about acne, you can take every pill, herb, drug, oil, supplement, use every acne cream, lotion, ointment, soap, gel, mask, drink green vegetable juices, eat apples and organic food, cleanse your liver and intestines all you want to, etc., etc., ...

But Unless You Actually "Short-Circuit" Acne's Game Plan FIRST - Everything You Attempt To Remedy It With, Is Nothing More Than Just A Temporary Fix At Best!

So how does one actually go about "DISRUPTING" this insidious cycle of acne?... By using creams, lotions, ointments, masks? ... Well, that's one way. I call that surface-to-surface contact. For a percentage of acne sufferers, it'll work. It does interrupt -- not disrupt -- the acne cycle somewhat, but only at the surface. For many acne sufferers however, it does little good.

How about using antibiotics or accutane?... that's attacking acne on the inside, right? True, but instead of "disrupting" the cycle of acne, it actually "scrambles" it... temporarily. Again, it does work for some, but not all acne sufferers...

Now supplements and herbs, ah-ha... that's the key... eh? Well, herbs can be 'iffy' and supplements are usually deemed safer than drugs but a word about supplements...

Fish oils, GLA, B5, antioxidants, etc. These seem to be the latest weaponry against acne. But they usually artificially 'manipulate' the acne cycle, for the time being, as long as you take them... and can be costly in doing so. They do help some acne sufferers, and frustrate many others. In fact, they tend to work best if and when certain dietary changes are implemented.

And that's where I've seen the most dramatic changes come from, in my experiences while interacting with acne sufferers... food or diet. And it's not really all that complicated, once you understand a few basics. And that's how I like to keep things... basic ... simple.

==> Step 2 is... You Got To Connect All The Dots... Now what do I mean by that? It's kind of like a checklist. Just like what a car mechanic does to figure out what's causing a certain problem with someone's car, you have to know all the areas to check out, in order to know exactly where the origin of the problem lies. Otherwise, you're just "swinging away," hoping and praying it'll work this time.

Is it hormones? Is it your genes? Is it the wrong kind of foods for YOU? A food-intolerance? An adverse reaction from the wrong kind of supplement? Candida? Are you experiencing a stressful situation? A skin cream reaction? Etc.

Acne... One Size Does Not Fit All.

One thing about acne... ONE size certainly does not fit ALL. It's "multi-factorial," to borrow a phrase from one dermatologist. So don't let someone on some acne website boil everything down, and make you believe that acne has ONE, and only ONE cause. They'll usually give you some 'schpeel' about "the true cause of acne" which ends up being nothing more than an over-simplification of a few factors, i.e., "the liver," or "inflammation."

Hey, that's like an auto-mechanic that gives each an every car he sees a run-of-the-mill, general tune-up, without ever trying to actually solve the real problem that some of cars might have. "Well, the last car just needed a tune-up... so why not just give every car that comes through the shop, a tune-up?" See... that wouldn't work, right? It might do the trick for maybe some of the cars... but not the rest.

Now, it kind of works the same way with acne sufferers... what helps one acne sufferer, doesn't always mean it'll help all the other acne sufferers. That's why some creams and lotions will work for a certain percentage of acne sufferers, but not all. Same with using drugs to fight acne. For some, it'll work, but not all... Same with supplements...helps some, not all.

But they're not going to tell you that! You end up, finding out the hard way. But it doesn't have to be that way anymore. Now, acne is more of an individual thing. Each case is a little different than the other, and should be treated as such. Again, 'one size should not fit all.' It all depends what stage you're at with your skin problems.

Now, sometimes, all you might need is a topical treatment and your skin will be fine. But if you've already been through the mill of creams, lotions, supplements, diets, and ointments without much improvement, you may need specific, individual treatment.

So ask yourself, where do YOU stand right now?

Acne Cures: Is there a Natural Acne Cure that Works?

Are there natural acne cures that work or is it a new age myth? Is there a permanent cure for acne or are all acne sufferers sentenced to the Sisyphean battle of tackling the 'on the surface' symptoms? Is there an honest, natural and safer alternative to the endless use of over the counters and to the nasty side effects inflicted by conventional drugs, creams and topical acne treatments?

Most dermatologists and other western medicine followers have already answered that controversial question by claiming that acne, among other diseases simply cannot be cured.

There are 2 reasons for that:

1. Most dermatologists don't even know what the real cause of acne is. It's amazing but true. They are highly familiar with the symptoms of acne and they specialize in tackling the 'on the surface' symptoms, but unfortunately they cannot tell you what the internal conditions are that cause your acne to form in the first place. If you don't believe me just ask your dermatologist.

2. Most doctors work in conjunction with the pharmaceutical and drug companies and the latter is not motivated, so to speak, at discovering a cure for Acne or Aids or Cancer - simply because hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on finding treatments for the symptoms of diseases. Why? simply because their global aim is to make more profit by creating consumer dependency. By applying medications and creams that deal merely with the symptoms while ignoring the source or the internal cause of the disease, acne will never be cured. The average acne sufferer will become more and more reliant on drugs that temporarily calm the symptoms and that means steady income for the drug and pharmaceutical companies.

There's a lovely metaphor describing acne among other chronic diseases and the way modern medicine deals with these afflictions: If you manage to kill all the mosquitoes around a stale pond using chemicals, for a little while there will be no mosquitoes.

But since the source of the problem (what causes the mosquitoes to appear) is still there - the stale, disgusting pond where mosquitoes can find food and fertile ground for laying their eggs - mosquitoes will always come back!

The same thing happens with your acne!

Without eliminating the source of your acne condition, you will never get rid of your acne. Without fixing the internal problem that is causing your acne, you may find temporary relief, but your acne will always come back until you do something fundamental to eradicate the cause from within...until you make the pond (your body or internal system) a place where 'mosquitoes' cannot exist.

Ultimately, every disease results from a breakdown within your body. All major diseases and chronic conditions are warning signs of something very fundamentally wrong inside. Deepak Chopra refers to this as "The violation of simple laws of nature that make our body function."

The very surprising truth is that you are lucky for having acne. Let me explain...Acne, like constant headaches, irritable bowel syndrome or dandruffs is only a small message from your body that something is wrong internally and should be addressed and corrected.

Now, there are two choices you can make - you can:

1.Ignore that message - bog mistake! The internal imbalance that caused your acne will, in most cases, turn into a chronic condition. Now instead of just having acne you'll start having other hormonal imbalance or toxic overload related symptoms in addition to acne. Because the internal problem is not fixed, the disease symptoms get more and more intense.

2.Listen to your body and start fixing the internal problem that causes your acne to appear in the first place; you will not only get rid of your acne you will also achieve beautiful, healthy, even toned clear skin complexion, re-balance your body and prevent future hormonal or toxic overload related conditions.

The simple truth is...you are out of balance. We now live a 'far-from-natural' lifestyle. There are over 300 synthetic industrial chemicals present in our bodies that did not exist 50 years ago. We are filled with toxins from the food, and medication we ingest and use.

By fixing the internal condition that causes your acne in addition to adopting a healthy lifestyle (healthy diet & mindset, cleanse & detoxify, hormonal balancing etc.) you will put your body back into balance - holistically - your acne will cease to exist and you feel as healthy and attractive as ever!

It doesn't matter what type of acne you have. Whether you suffer from: acne vulgaris, acne Conglobata, acne Rosacea, Acne Fulminans, Blackheads, Whiteheads, Papules, Pustules, Nodules or Cysts: The principles required to cure your acne are basically the same. The "holistic" ways of treating people have been around for thousands of years, and they absolutely work whether you have teen or adult acne; whether you suffer from acne on your back, shoulders or chest or if you suffer from female related acne such as menopause acne or acne due to monthly cycles.

Whatever your acne condition is, when you finally decide to stop making the same acne treatment mistakes that have been holding you back and begin applying the holistic approach to curing acne, you can literally choose to become clear and stay clear. You will have the power to make it happen.

Acne Alternative Medicine - How To Find An Alternative Acne Treatment That Really Works

Are you suffering from acne and looking for an alternative acne medicine and treatment that actually works and gets rid of acne? There is no one singular alternative acne medicine and treatment that works for every individual suffering from acne. The best acne medicine and treatment for you will depend on the type of acne that you are suffering. Keep reading to find out some effective alternative acne medicine and treatment options that have given fast results for acne sufferers worldwide plus get FREE instant access to "The Five Basic Secrets For Clearing Your Skin".

Many people who suffer from acne find it better to undertake a group of acne treatments. The reasons people decide to do this is because there are actually so many causes for acne to occur in the first place.

Although not one particular acne medicine or treatment is said to cure all acne straight away, the good news is that there are a range of alternative acne treatments and medicines that do show good results in getting rid of acne. These alternative acne treatments and medicines that do actually work promise to deliver a clear and clean skin for acne sufferers. These alternative acne medicines and treatments do vary, however, below is a rough guide for common acne alternative medicines and treatments that actually do work.

ACNE ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND TREATMENT OPTION 1: A very potent form of alternative acne treatments is a herbal acne remedy. This is a great way to try and avoid the side effects that occur with some chemically laden acne treatments. That being said, it does usually take around 30 days or even longer for a herbal acne remedy to really work so don't expect fast results. Additionally, there have not been very many studies into acne herbal remedies to determine how effective it really is as an alternative acne medicine and treatment.

ACNE ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND TREATMENT OPTION 2: Acne home remedies are proving to be popular as they are a lot cheaper than the much more price acne medicines and treatments available elsewhere. However, just as with acne herbal remedies, there has also not been much study conducted into the effectiveness of home remedies as an alternative acne medicine and treatment. Additionally, as with above, acne home remedies very rarely produce fast results. The good news is though is that they have far less side effects than other acne alternative treatments and medicines.

ACNE ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND TREATMENT OPTION 3: Natural acne treatments are another form of alternative acne treatment options available for acne sufferers. However, just like I stated above, there have also been very few scientific studies undertaken in natural acne treatments and how effective they are at combating acne head on. Also, it is worth bearing in mind that many studies focus more on the synthetic chemical acne treatments instead of more user friendly alternative acne medicine and treatments that are becoming more and more popular for acne sufferers.

Acne Diet Link Exposed: Is There an Acne Cure Diet that Works?

Acne diet and the money factor: You can't sell a healthy diet

Ask any medical doctor if there is a connection between diet and acne and almost all of them will claim there is none. Quoting from the Journal of the American Medical Association: "Diet plays no role in acne treatment in most patients...even large amounts of certain foods have not clinically exacerbated acne".

With years of medical education and clinical experience behind these claims, how can we the simple folks who suffer from acne challenge these statements and think otherwise? The answer is: doubt. Doubt, if its stays in the borders of reason, can open many doors otherwise will stay forever shut. Believe it or not, doubt can change reality. Doubt can cure your acne and doubt can even save your life.

Fact is, countless of acne sufferers have reported that their acne seemed to get worse when they consumed certain foods and saw dramatic positive change over their acne condition when they eliminated the same foods from their diet and when certain foods with specific nutritional value were incorporated into their diet.

So why do dermatologists so stubbornly insist that diet does not cause acne? The answer: you can't make a profit promoting a healthy diet. At least not as much money as you could make by selling drugs and over the counters. There is a huge pressure upon doctors coming from the drug and pharmaceutical companies to prescribe expensive medications and lotions that create dependency. The truth is, that your doctor is in a way, a hostage by the trillion dollar drug companies. Did you know that the drug companies, who have no interest in producing something that they cannot control financially, sponsor most medical schools?

The right diet, although not a solution by itself, can, in many cases, dramatically reduce inflammation and even completely clear one's acne (if you're one of the lucky ones who's acne is triggered by allergic response to food). Promoting a clear skin diet simply means less profits for the drug and pharmaceutical companies.

The truth is that conventional medications will never cure your acne, simply because they are pre-designed NOT to fix the internal cause of acne. They are pre-designed to deal with the external symptoms of a disease as they create more and more dependency and more dependency means making more money all at our expense and ignorance.

The Theory That Diet Doesn't Cause Acne Is A Myth

The dogmatic theory that diet does not cause acne and that acne is merely an incurable genetic disorder was based upon two dated researches published in 1969 and 1971 that were aimed at studying the connection between diet and acne.

These studies were the foundation of the 'acne symptoms treatment strategy', meaning, because acne is a genetic disease that cannot be prevented, the only way to deal with acne would be to tackle its symptoms (bacteria, inflammation, puss, redness, greasiness), by applying creams, antibiotics, taking prescription drugs and over the counters.

Surprisingly enough, years after the above studies were published, clinical trials and in depth researches experimenting the acne diet link have found that the studies from 1969 and 1971 had came to the wrong conclusions and were in fact seriously flawed.

Recent studies have clearly found a significant connection between diet and acne. It appears that the wrong diet is now thought to be one of the leading acne contributing factors that can negatively affect hormonal regulation and the natural process of toxic elimination, which can seriously aggravate one's existing acne.

Diet Shapes Who You Are (Including Your Acne)

In the same way that crashing waves shape beach cliffs and just like the wind shapes the canyon walls, slowly and methodically over time, so does eating shapes and effects our physic, our internal system, our physical and mental being, from the organ down to the cellular level.

The idea that an object foreign to our body that is inserted by the food that we eat, has no effect on us, or has no impact on chronic conditions such as acne is absurd. Diet is the primary thing that affects and shapes who we are.

Diet has cumulative effect on our bodies, and that includes our skin condition and acne, which is a manifestation of a chronic internal problem slowly shaped and built by the wrong daily dietary choices over the years.

Acne Diet and The Kitavan Islanders

While in the U.S, more than 80% of teenagers between 16 and 18 have acne and more than 17 million Americans suffer from some form of acne, there is an interesting evidence that native people that live and eat in traditional ways, have significantly lower to no occurrences of acne.

In 2002, Dr. Cordain and his colleagues published a landmark study that examined 300 people living in the Kitavan Islands off the coast of Papua New Guinea that showed that none of the islanders had even one blemish on his or her face. Similar to the Kitavans, no case of acne had been observed when the same experiment had been conducted upon the South American Indians called the Ache, living in a remote jungle in eastern Paraguay.

The natives of Kitavan and the South American Indians had no access to the latest over the counters, topical creams or conventional acne medications and they had no dermatologist to consult with. The only vast difference between them and American or European citizens is their diet.

Acne Diet and Sugar: The Sweet Poison

Aside from the fact that sugar is a 100% pure chemical with zero nutritional value, recent studies have clearly shown a connection between the consumption of sugar and the aggravation of acne.

When you consume any form of refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white flour, white rice) here's what happens: right after you insert that 'sweet poison' into your body, it rapidly spikes up your blood sugar levels. Your body needs to bring those levels down so it secrets a surge of insulin, other male hormones and an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1. The excretion of these hormones overwhelms your liver and your internal system in general. The excess of male hormones encourages the skin to excrete large amounts of sebum oil: The greasy substance that encourages the p.acne bacteria to grow, resulting in the aggravation of your acne.

Acne Diet and Dairy Products: Got Milk? Got Acne

If you thought sugar can aggravate your acne, here's another major nutritional player in the formation of acne: behold the miracles of milk. Milk (all dairy products included) is the most harmful, mucus forming, allergenic and acne aggravating food you can find. Surprised? I thought so. After years of constant brainwashing by the media, who can blame us for thinking milk is good for strong bones and healthy teeth? The truth is: every sip of milk contains 59 different raging hormones, (which trigger the hyper-production of sebum oil resulting in more acne), saturated animal fat, steroid hormones, dead white blood cells, and cow pus in abundance!

Did you know that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows 750 million pus cells in every liter of milk (about two pounds) produced in America? Think about it, the next time you pop a pimple.

Scientific studies already point the finger at milk as one of the worst acne aggravating foods: "As pointed out by Dr. Jerome Fisher, 'About 80 percent of cows that are giving milk are pregnant and are throwing off hormones continuously.' Progesterone breaks down into androgens, which have been implicated as a factor in the development of acne...Dr. Fisher observed that his teenage acne patients improved as soon as the milk drinking stopped."

If there's one element you should remove from your diet in the quest for clear skin make it this one. Not only will you see an immediate improvement over your acne, you'll feel a huge weight has been lifted from your body. If you worry about calcium intake, don't! Milk being acidic forming food creates a leeching effect where calcium is taken from your bones to balance the acidity. Milk actually deprives your body from its calcium resources. Green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds are not only excellent sources of calcium they also have the powers to help you fight your acne symptoms.

Diet is only ONE of the factors that cause acne

Dairy products and sugar are not the only acne aggravating foods. The two above cannot sum up the list of western made acne triggering foods. There are several other foods you should clearly stay away from if you ever wish to clear your acne. The good new is that there are tons of other foods such as essential fatty acids that are not only excellent for your skin, they can actually help you clear your acne, by re-balancing your body and promoting to an acne-free environment.

The right nutrition plays an important part in the complex process of acne formation. When doctors claim there is no link between diet and acne because certain individuals can eat specific foods and get acne while others eat the same foods and don't, these doctors have failed to realize that there are several factors involved in the formation and aggravation of acne and diet is only ONE of them.

The Final Verdict On The Acne Diet Connection:

How To Finally Overcome Your Acne Challenge

Acne is a complex condition that is triggered by several underlying factors. The only way to neutralize your acne condition is to tackle all these acne-contributing factors-holistically.

Since the wrong diet is only one of these acne-triggering factors, in most cases no special diet can cure acne.

There is a however, a tight connection between diet and acne formation. Dietary factors can trigger and aggravate your existing acne. Avoiding the wrong foods such as milk, sugar and hydrogenated oils, and eating cleansing and hormonal balancing foods such as green leafy vegetables and essential fatty acids, can help your skin heal itself from the inside out and dramatically reduce your acne symptoms.

There are also several important dietary principals that you must understand and follow if you ever want to cure your acne for good.

Taking responsibility over your body and adhering to these dietary principals along with taking the necessary steps to tackle all acne contributing factors, holistically, will not only cure your acne permanently and give you the flawless acne free skin you deserve, following these principals will also significantly improve your overall health, mental well-being, look and feel.

Let's Talk about Acne - Learn the Truth and Myths About Acne

Having great looking skin doesn't stop at the ladies, a massive number of males are very interested in making the most of them-selves and it all starts with the skin.

Never has your appearance been more important than at this time. We judge people within seconds of seeing them. We have an opinion of a person who is covered in spots; we come to our own conclusions rightly or wrongly if we see someone who has eczema or dry flaky skin. If someone is unshaven, dirty, wears heavy dark makeup, has lank greasy hair, has acne, like it or not we make instant decisions on how we look. It also affects our mood and behaviour.

As there are three types of acne past, present and future signs of acne you need to first establish which type are YOU

I will prove to you in a matter of moments why you can trust me to expose you to the whole truth AND Myths about the world of acne.

So what is Acne?

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when sebum (oil) and dead skin cells block the pore opening, causing sebum to build up inside the pore. Although acne is a common skin condition, if left untreated it can lead to severe inflammation and permanent scarring.

Who is affected by Acne?

Acne affects people regardless of age, gender, or race. More than 80 % of people suffer from acne at some point in their lives, many into adulthood. Did you know 20% of all adults suffer with active acne? and of the 85% of young adults (between ages 12 and 24) that suffer from acne, 25% will have permanent scars ranging from mild to severe.

Knowledge is POWER!! To be able to rid ourselves of ACNE we first must need to know what it is

Learn about the Acne Life Cycle

Stage One: Clogged Pores

o Each pore in your skin is essentially a hair follicle lined by cells from the epidermis (the upper most layer of the skin). The hair follicle is connected to multi- lobed sebaceous glands (oil producing glands).

o Sebaceous glands produce sebum, a natural substance that lubricates the hair and provides essential fatty acids and lipids that are necessary to maintain the skin's protective moisture barrier.

o As part of the skin's healthy processes, cells that line the pore are continuously shed.

o They mix with sebum and flow out of the pore onto the surface of the skin.

o If the sebaceous glands produce too much oil, generally in response to hormones, the mixture of dead skin cells and sebum form a plug, blocking the pore opening.

Stage Two: Bacteria

o Dead skin cells lining the pore continue to be shed and oil is still produced by the sebaceous glands, both of which build up behind the plug.

o The accumulated mixture of sebum and dead cells attracts the bacteria found naturally in the skin (known as P.acnes or propionibacterium acnes), which feeds on oil and multiplies rapidly inside the pore.

Stage Three: Inflammation

The bacteria overgrowth triggers the body's natural inflammatory immune response: white blood cells to flood the area. This causes swelling and redness in the region, which can ultimately lead to the discoloration and scarring associated with acne.

Which Type are You?

There are many types of acne breakouts, all of which result when oil and dead skin build up and clog the pore opening. Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules (or nodules), and cysts are the four most common types of acne breakouts.

Blackheads (or open comedones) are clogged pores that are only partially plugged, allowing some of the trapped sebum and oil to escape the pore. The sebum within the hair follicle solidifies. The dark colour associated with blackheads is due to the oxidization of sebum and melanin in the dead skin cells when they come into contact with the air. Blackheads are generally not inflamed or infected with bacteria and do not cause scaring.

Whiteheads (or Closed comedones) are the result of completely clogged pores. Below the skin, excess oil and dead skin cells fill the pore and begin to create a small whitish bump. Limited bacterial growth and a low grade immune response create the white pus associated with whiteheads. They are not highly inflamed and do not generally cause scarring.

Pustules (or nodules) are red, inflamed acne breakouts that occur when clogged pores become infected with bacteria (P.acnes). A pustule is similar to a whitehead, but is highly inflamed and appears as a red bump with a white or yellow centre. Because of the inflammation and swelling, pustules cause the distinctive discolouration associated with acne and may also cause scarring.

Cysts are severely inflamed and pus-filled acne lesions that occur when the contents of a clogged pore seep into the dermis (lower layer of the skin). The deep inflammation and infection cause a severe immune response: white blood cells flood the area, which then becomes swollen and sore. This results in the formation of a cyst. Acne cysts are painful and often cause scarring. The white blood cells can overreact and damage the pore and surrounding area. After the cyst heals, a permanent scar may remain.

OK, So All This Information Is All Well and Good But, How Do We Treat ACNE!!

Because acne can begin 2 - 3 weeks before blemishes are visible on your skin, the secret to controlling acne is prevention. Prevention includes eating a balanced diet, exercising and reducing stress, as well as cleansing with a proper treatment system.

Please Do Not Be Mislead Acne can take anywhere Between 8 - 12 weeks to treat. However, most people can see a difference very quickly.

When treating acne topically, dermatologists recommend a three pronged approach.

o Unclog pores and keep them clear.

o Control oil, which helps to limit bacterial growth

o Reduce inflammation.

The skin takes time to adjust to a new system. During this time, breakouts may appear worse before they get better; this is NOT uncommon as pre-existing blemishes are beginning to surface. Improvements should be visible within a few weeks and continue throughout the next eight to twelve weeks.

MOST SYSTEMS DO NOT MATCH THESE CRITERIA

We have discussed the Truth about Acne now the interesting bit .... the myths!!

ACNE MYTHS

Myth#1: Scrub face clean to treat acne!

Vigorous washing and scrubbing can actually irritate the skin and make acne worse. The best approach to good hygiene and treating acne is to gently wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser, pat dry and use an appropriate acne treatment.

Myth#2: You have to let acne run its course!

The truth is acne can be cleared up! Using a high quality, efficacious acne treatment system can address the stages of acne: clogged pores, bacteria and inflammation.

Myth#3: Acne is just a cosmetic condition!

While acne poses no serious threat to one's health, it does affect the way people look and can affect the way people feel about themselves. Acne should be taken seriously and treated to prevent permanent physical scarring.

Myth #4: Acne is not related to diet!

While thus far science has not found a solid connection between diet and acne, research is being revisited in this area. Some studies indicate a relationship between acne and high-glycemic foods such as sodas, pastries and breads. Other studies have looked at the impact of dairy-rich diets on skin health. Many people insist certain foods affect their acne. When controlling acne, eating a balanced diet is always a good idea.

Myth#5: There is no correlation between stress and acne!

Acne not only causes significant stress, but is also made worse by stress. in a recent study, Standford University students with acne were analyzed before and after exams. The study showed the students' acne worsened when under pre-exam stress. When you're under stress, your body produces stress hormones such as cortisol, which stimulate an over production of oil in the skin. When this excess oil mixes with dead skin cells, it promotes bacterial growth and can cause acne to develop or become worse. This can, in turn, lead to ore stress, plunging you into a Stress-acne cycle.

You now understand the Facts about Acne - the Truth and the myths

Take a good long look at your skin in the mirror - what do you see? Do you like the image? Are you projecting the right image for who you are? How does your skin measure up? Is it clear, glowing with health, a joy to look at? Or like so many people are you suffering with spots, blemishes, dark circles with a generally tired thick complexion. If one or all of these best describes your looks don't worry the good news is, that all can change within 30 days.

Why 30 days?

This is the average time it takes for new cells to rise to the surface of your skin. As that happens the old cells on the surface fall off, so you can technically say you are a completely different person every 30 days!

Over the next few pages I will discuss various methods that will guarantee your skin to be beautiful, blemish free, a joy to look at, no matter what nationality you happen to be or how long you have been suffering with problem skin.

First though you need to know a little about the skin.

Well it's the largest organ of the body and probably the most abused. It is made up of layers - the epidermis, dermis and the subcutaneous layers. Skin consists of hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, melanins and connective tissue. Proper care is essential for normal skin functions. You see the skin wasn't designed to have problems it's construction is actually designed to combat most conditions. In our modern days though it does need a little help and I will discuss this later, but for now nature made sure that our skin can fight infections and bacteria's so most common issues we have is because our skin is unable to work at it's optimal level. As I mentioned on average the new skin cells rise to the surface approx. 30 days. It has a high concentration of water and needs the pores open to enable the skin to breathe.

Acne:

As you are probably aware our skin secretes an oil called sebum, which is naturally produced. Sebum is the chemical that helps to keep the skin at the correct levels of pH to enable the skin to fight bacteria and infections. You see we were not designed to suffer with spots, eczema, dry skin, etc., without this correction your skin will not be able to perform at it optimal level.

Warning:

If you have suffered from acne for a while you will know that as soon as you find a new product that promises clear skin, you use it for a day or so and it looks like it is working only to discover that it doesn't. This is because your skin is a very clever organ; it adjusts to whatever you do to it very quickly. The biggest misconception is that you need to buy a product either soap or cleanser that is so harsh it strips ALL the oils from the skin. This simply encourages the skin to produce more oil, you then think you need to use more of the harsh product and the skin produces even more oils, a vicious circle. Break this cycle NOW.

Stop using everything you have tried or are thinking of trying. For a couple of days leave your skin, allow it to "rest". Simply rinse with warm water but no products. Try not to get your hair products on your face; these too can be so harsh that the skin can react to them.

Once your skin has rested then I recommend a product that has absolutely NO bad ingredients, this isn't as easy as it may seem as many companies will promote the good ingredients and not mention the bad fillers used. Even the most well respected companies within the industry use these bad ingredients; price also is not an indicator of quality. With these fillers it doesn't matter how much good natural ingredients are used they will not work as the fillers will block the pores preventing them from being effective. Do not mix different company products ie a cleanser from Clarins, toner from body shop and moisturiser from Clinique this again is damaging your skin. Every company works on a different method some use exfoliation to get some results, some use "sealing in" the moisture. Keep to one product line.

If you are in any doubt then please feel free to email me on sarah@dermassists.com and I will be happy to give you a personal consultation. I have researched for many years companies that will provide only the good and none of the bad.

Getting back to acne, to restore your skin to it youthful, glowing and healthy state I recommend the following five point daily regime:-

Cleanse:

This is essential to clear the pores and remove toxins from the skin. Do not use anything with soap, coal tar or similar harsh cleansing agents, these damage the skin structure and creates further problems.

Exfoliate:

Be careful too much exfoliating and this will damage the skin. Use a mild, exfoliant preferably with marine diatoms, which will not damage the skin. Too many companies including the large, well-respected companies work with exfoliating the skin with very harsh ingredients. This is not desirable as it strips the skin of the sebum making the skin go to work on creating more.

Re - balance or Tone:

I have many people telling me even now, that the pores are closed with toners. This is not true, pores cannot be closed, they can be blocked but not closed. It is with the pores that the skin breathes if the pores are closed or blocked then the skin is in trouble and dies. Toners were created for two reasons, one was to firstly remove the oil and petroleum left on the skin from traditional cleansers and secondly to retract the pores after the debris had been removed. Every hour of every day our skin is exposed to pollutants and dirt, this is held within the pores stretching them, if the pores are not cleansed thoroughly and then helped to retract to their original size, the result is very large exposed pores. Most toners have harsh alcohols, which again will cause further problems; natural Witch Hazel will retract the pores and restore the pH levels of the skin making the skin work at its optimal levels. This is one of the most important products your skin needs but it can be the most damaging if using the wrong product.

Hydrate:

A good hydrating product can work wonders for scar tissue, and will assist the skin in the healing process and hydrate the skin. The side effects of this product are that it assists the elastin and collagen to perform better, hence younger skin!

Moisturise:

Use only moisturisers with humectants and with an SPF, humectants are water magnets, which will attract the moisture from the air - totally different from the "sealing in" process. Technology has moved so much within the skin care products and using oils and petroleum by products is such an old method to use, that now we know does not work.

I have found that many companies claim to have a successful regime. Time and time again they will promote one or two good ingredients only to find that the bulk of the products are useless and in many cases damaging to the skin.

The Do's and don't on Good Skin Care.

Do: Use high quality ingredients This does not mean the dearest

Do: Keep to a simply regime

Do: Use the right products for your skin type

Do: Remember your skin will change, whether you move to a different location or if you stop or start smoking. Treat your skin accordingly.

Do: Cleanse, Tone, Hydrate and moisturise twice a day.

Don't: Mix different company's products

Don't: Use products with cheap bulking agents such as petroleum by products, oils, coal tar, harsh alcohol etc.,

Don't: Tear at the skin this will create lines and wrinkles too early.
